MASERATI 250F GODIA #20 by Cartrix (CRX0920) The Maserati 250F was designed to compete under Formula 1's new rules for 1954, which demanded engines of 2.5 litres unsupercharged.
Colombo, engineer that worked for Alfa Romeo and Ferrari , designed the new in-line six cylinder engine that offered 270 HP to 7,000 RPM. and Colotti
designed the chassis with stylized aluminium body resulting in a perfectly balanced car that would quickly prove to be a winner. In fact, under the driving of Fangio and Moss, this car won the first two Grand Prix of 1954 (Argentina and Belgium)
This car really was the one to beat, but the situation change when Fangio and Moss let Maserati in middle 1954 season to race with the new Mercedes W196.
1954 and 1955 years the Maserati 250F enjoying many victories while being raced by private teams, but couldn't compete with the Mercedes Team that win the world championship.
In 1956 year Mercedes withdrew from motor sport while the 250F had a new rival - the Lancia D-50. Circumstances dictated that Lancia would hand over cars and expertise to Ferrari later in the season which enabled Fangio to again triumph as Ferrari won the world championship with Moss' Maserati in second place.
With the emerging British teams of BRM and Vanwall now threatening Ferrari as world champions, 1957 looked like it was going to be a tough year for Maserati. But three years of technical development behind them and the unquestioned skills of Fangio at the wheel, the championship finally came to Maserati.
The 250F was the last Maserati to race in a F-1 world championship as the efforts involved in getting a competitive F-1 car on the track were too much for the company "Officine Alfieri Maserati" but the legend of the 250F lives on forever.
